The Uhuru Foundation disrupts cycles of incarceration by creating real pathways to housing, employment, and long-term stability for individuals impacted by the justice system.

We connect housing, workforce, mentorship, and innovation to turn reentry into lasting opportunity.

 OUR STORY

Founded by two childhood friends from a under resourced neighborhood in Esmont, Virginia, Uhuru grew out of lived experience and a shared commitment to transformation. One founder experienced incarceration as a college student. The other became a first generation college graduate and entrepreneur.

What began with youth detention and gun violence prevention evolved into a deeper focus on what creates lasting change for adults through housing, workforce pathways, and peer led support.

Today, Uhuru serves some of the very men our founders once saw struggling in their own neighborhood, turning lived experience into stability, dignity, and real second chances.

Since our pilot program, we have expanded our reach and deepened our impact, extending services across the state of Virginia. Our mission driven approach ensures that youth and adult returning citizens have the support, resources, and opportunities needed to navigate their reentry successfully and rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

As we continue to grow and evolve, The Uhuru Foundation remains dedicated to its core values of transformation, opportunity, and community. We strive to create an environment where past circumstances do not define future possibilities and where every individual has the chance to thrive beyond the confines of past mistakes.

Uhuru guides individuals from crisis to confidence through stability, opportunity, and leadership.
